Robert's Pictures or Derek's Pictures Sixteen members of
Falkirk Teamgym left the wind and rain of Scotland for 6 days in the
ancient city of Athens in southern Greece. Thanks to excellent service from British Airways the team's travel arrangements were superb with all flights and connections almost to the minute. The team were also luck to avoid the air traffic control problems on 19th June. The team were based in the London hotel in Glyfada only 100m from the beach and was an excellent base for the visit. Also staying in the hotel were Dynamo from England and Mulyidesportos Club from Portugal. The teams were scheduled to perform on
two evenings during their stay in Athens which left plenty of time for
sightseeing, shopping and sun. During the two gymnastics performances the team were given fantastic support from the local audience and were widely cheered when they marched in at the end of their last performance in traditional highland outfits. The hosting was exceptional with the overseas teams invited to dinner with the Mayor who sat through all performances with his wife a rare achievement these days. Many thank must be given to Simeon Skoouteris, Prof. of Physical Education and his staff for organising this excellent event and Falkirk Teamgym hope to fulfil the invitation to return again in 2003 Some of the Gymnasts reflections on the trip :- Stephen says "The athens trip was a great success. The whole team pulled together to give two of their best displays yet and the crowd seemed to think so aswell. Seeing athens and the sites was good and being on holiday with the full team was a great laugh as we all get on well. Big thanks to robert and jean for making it possible."
